Founded in 1983, Atlas Corporation Studios are located 5 kilometers from the city's entrance. It is one of Morocco's oldest film studios, intending to encourage the growth of this industry in the Ouarzazate region.
Many films have been shot there since 1984, including The Jewel of the Nil, starring Michael Douglas, Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott, Babel, with Brad Pitt, Kundun, directed by Martin Scorsese, and many others.
The Atlas studios, which have been closed for renovations since 2017, are now open to the public offering 45-minute guided tours of the 25 sets that can be found there.
