Since its recognition as an international UNESCO heritage site in 1987, this ksar has served as a key economic and cultural crossroads. The ksar of Ait Ben Haddou has also served as a film set for big international movies productions.
Ait Ben Haddou is the most famous ksar of Ounila valley's ksour. It is located on the foothills of the southern slopes of the High Atlas in the province of Ouarzazate.

The Ksar is primarily a collective housing grouping. Gathered inside the defensive walls reinforced with corner towers and pierced by a chicane door, many residential houses, some modest, while others are like little urban castles with high corner towers, adorned with beautiful mud brick patterns on the top, but also structures and community spaces.
